LL BATTLE PLAN
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
• One room at a time. Complete it, then move on.
• Beware: every single item has a story—no time for them all. Therefore, favor quick and clean decisions.
• If a decision cannot be quickly reached, place it in a Not-Yet box and move on—maintain forward momentum.
• If brain fog arises, stop—resume with clarity.
APPROACH
• One room at a time: office, kitchen, DR, LR, then on down the hall
• LR as staging area: sorting table, categorized boxes, POST-ITs, contractor bags, Sharpies
CATEGORIES
[boxes for each during sorting process]
• KEEP? Why? And where? If both cannot be definitively answered, do not keep.
• GIVE? Someone definitely wants/needs it? Great: come and get it.
• SELL? For how much? Where—eBay, Reverb, FB Marketplace, etc?
• DONATE? Is it worth it? If so, then to whom? If not…
• PITCH? Bagged, boxed, & staged—ready it for the dumptser / Rumpke special pickup
And finally…
• WAIT? Not ready to make a decision? If so: where is the item staged?
_____________________________
KEEP
Move straightaway to its new home. If home space not yet available: label and stage.
GIVE
Arrange pickup time / shipping instrux.
SELL
• No repairs: all items sold AS-IS—anything of legit apparent value.
Special Considerations: bike? Teac deck?
• Build exhaustive SELL LIST (SL) during initial sort.
Track all SL items with listing status on a spreadsheet, tabbed by category:
> item # • asking price • listing venue • status • dates • notes
- LPs / CDs: query call to Everybody’s Records
- Music gear: exhaustive list, then query call to Mike’s Music for consignment? [otherwise: Reverb / FB mktplc]
• Categorize SL items for research: (a) price (b) sale mechanism
Research market—eBay, Reverb, etc.
List items competitively to move.
DONATE
Qs: Is it useful? Whom might it help?
-E.G. Winter clothes to VinceDePaul / low-value instruments to Axes for Kids / etc
-Seeking homes for junk is an endless time drain—let it go.
